What we have found it that to pass courses such as linear algebra, multivariate calculus and the like requires systematic stage 11 reasoning, one stage beyond formal stage 10.?To pass abstract mathematics classes like modern algebra, topology, etc, when they are proof based, require metaystematic stage 12 reasoning.?We also find that this is the earliest domain in which such reasoning develops.?We have a paper by Richardson and myself on this.
