One approach to the IQ - Stage comparison is to use the Hierarchical Complexity Scoring Scheme (HCSS) to determine the order of hierarchical complexity of the task demands of each question in the tests.?Because there are many possible answers, only some of which are counted in the standard IQ scoring, it is necessary to figure out what the implicit task is for each.?Once one sees what task an answer correct addresses and that order of hierarchical complexity of that task, one can find the stage of performance on each item.?Remember, stage is not based on norms.?There are just 15 stages, if one includes the 0th stage for no stage.?One of the strengths of the Model of Hierarchical Complexity, is that it does not care about the content or context of an action.?It yields an order of hierarchical complexity for an item irrespective of the domain or content of that item.?That makes it very easy to compare a person's performances across tasks.?If one want to find out the distributional characteristics so that a person's stage can be enumerated in a psychometric way, one only has to run a Rasch Analysis on a reasonably large number of people.?I tend to be a little telegraphic, so feel free to ask questions and an expansion on any point.
