I agree with Les that the question was about evidence for a relation between cognitive development and outcomes. However, the Shayer paper is one of a VERY FEW that address this question. Unfortunately, in science, we need unrefuted evidence from numerous sources before we draw general conclusions. A good literature review would help in this regard, but I have not been able to find one. Something many Americans might not know (Correct me if I'm wrong, Les.): Exams in Europe require skills that are more closely related to indices of development (test-takers usually have to show their thinking) than our multiple choice exams. This means that looking at exam scores is a reasonable way to evaluate the effectiveness of a developmental curriculum. |
