MLC says:
There is no agreement as to what are the "best" teaching practices.?Especially within the Piagetian community, there are a wide divergent set of interpretations of the data.

TGB: Sure...no agreement on best practice, but Les Smith's comment refers to an exemplar of EFFECTIVE practice, wheter the aim is cognitive development?OR academic achievemnet (that's an inclusive disjunction!)

Hi Jonas
You are welcome to pick the brains of Adey and Shayer in that their work - with learners and teachers - has over two decades been shown to be regularly successful [= real gains that are durable and transferable]. My things are - inter alia - commentaries on this "success story" that for reasons that I have never been to understand

TGB:Yet, how can this remain to be true?

LS: is virtually a complete unknown in the US, Canada and similar far away places.

TGB: Check the 'authoritative' north American commentaries - as well as almost anything else written or spoken there. Perhaps Shayer, Adey et al work in some parallel universe.
two decades of effective practice and two years of being (almost) completely ignored.
