The Symposium includes presentations of data and theory on a variety of topics relevant to positive adult development. Positive adult development refers to development starting in late adolescence and continuing through life. The focus is on expanded capabilities and changes that improve the quality of life. This symposium is especially important to the faculty and students involved in the courses and graduate programs for which adult development is relevant. The Society has a particular interest in encouraging state of the art research, discussion and presentations on populations that have not been traditionally studied. Because this Society is dedicated to positive adult development, sessions are organized to foster discussion and interaction among participants as much as possible. This makes the listener, as well as the presenter, more of an active participant and permits both to engage in dialogue on the topics presented.

The international membership of the SRAD includes people from all disciplines who are interested in positive adult development. It has 480 members.

Society members include those whose work is applied as well as academic writers and researchers. We extend an invitation to those interested in adult development at work, in school, in families, and in communities as well as those whose primary focus is the individual. The Society offers practitioners an opportunity to discover the latest ideas in the field and to explore the application of those ideas to everyday problems and challenges.

For theoreticians and researchers, the Society offers the following opportunities:

• to share your ideas with other theoreticians and researchers through the exchange of papers;
• to explore your ideas and others in a deeper way through relating them to daily life and its problems and opportunities;
• To explore the applications of your ideas by working on them with practitioners in many fields.

Challenges to conventional wisdom are especially welcome in all submissions.

Format of Presentations
The sessions are comprised of interactive poster presentations. The emphasis will be on visual presentations accompanied by dialogues with small groups of people. Most people informally interact with presenters in this venue around the posters. A brief presentation to the group at large precedes the poster period. The poster period is followed by full group discussion. Full papers or short summaries should be made available as hard copy handouts.
